With the recent heavy snowfall in Dubuque everyone has been busy shoveling out their sidewalks and driveways.But there is another very important place you need to shovel.  If you have a fire hydrant on your property chances are it looks a little like this hydrant just outside the WJOD studios..

Do yourself and your local firefighter a favor....spend a few minutes to remove the snow from around the hydrant.  The few minutes you spend now could save valuable minutes in the event of a fire near your home.  I removed the snow around our hydrant this morning.  Took me less than 10 minutes

Hopefully you'll never need to use a fire hydrant.  But if you do it's important to make it as easy as possible for fire crews to reach your hydrant.
