The Iowa Legislature has passed a new law allowing the sale and use of fireworks in the State..but you still can't use them in Dubuque

Even though State law allows the sale and possesson of fireworks, individual cities like Dubuque can still make them illegal to use. According to state law, Dubuque's previous ban on using fireworks holds up until the council can successful pass a new or revised ordinance. Cities are not allowed to regulate the sale of fireworks, so right now, people are allowed to buy, sell and possess fireworks in Dubuque, but they're not allowed to use them. Police say, just like in the past, anyone caught using fireworks faces an up to $250 fine.

The Council will have the opportunity to re-visit the ordinance at it's next 2 meetings.
