Yesterday I read an article that most people would choose Facebook over Twitter if they had to limit their social networking to one site. Not surprising. However, after reading that article I wondered how many of those respondents only said Facebook because they never gave Twitter a shot?

If you tune in to Y105 regularly and have done so for years, you would've heard me blasting Twitter from 2008-2012. Hated it. I thought the idea of updating someone on what you're doing in 140 characters was pointless when Facebook allows you to do the same thing and use as many characters as you'd like.

Fast-forward to the spring of 2012. The Minnesota Vikings (my favorite team) are in jeopardy of not getting approved for public funding for a new stadium and, in turn, might leave the state. I was so anxious to see if the bill passed that I turned to Twitter as I heard a Twin Cities radio station mention that you could receive up-to-the-minute Tweets from a guy they were sending to the Capitol.

This was my first time really seeing the benefit of Twitter. From there, I started following my favorite sports team's beat writers and bloggers, bands and artists and some comedians. I was finally realizing what Twitter was all about.

I've been on Facebook since early 2008. Facebook is great. It allows me to stay connected to family and friends who are hundreds of miles away. While they're both social networking sites, Twitter is more informative while Facebook is more entertaining and personal.

I suggest all of you try Twitter. It might take you a while to get the hang of it and that's ok. Also, don't feel like you have to Tweet to be on Twitter. I have many friends who are on there simply to get their news and information. It's perfect for that.

I don't know that Twitter will or even should pass Facebook in popularity, but I'm guessing there are quite a few people out there who would really enjoy the benefits Twitter has to offer if they gave it a shot.

If you decide to try it out, feel free to follow me @TheJeffRobbShow.
