'Jimi: All Is by My Side,' the biopic about Jimi Hendrix that was released earlier this year, will come out on DVD and Blu-ray Jan. 13, 2015. The movie stars Andre 'Andre 3000' Benjamin of Outkast in the title role.

Written and directed by Academy Award-winner John Ridley ('12 Years a Slave'), 'Jimi: All Is by My Side' takes place in 1966-67, from Hendrix's arrival in London to his legendary performance at the Monterey Pop Festival. It co-stars Imogen Poots as Linda Keith, the woman who brought him to England from New York, and Hayley Atwell as girlfriend Kathy Etchingham.

The film caused controversy from the very beginning, when Hendrix's estate refused to let any of his music to be featured in the movie. Instead, a trio comprised of session pros Kenny Aronoff, Waddy Wachtel and Lee Sklar were hired to perform the soundtrack. Back in March, Hendrix's family signed a deal to field offers to make an authorized film.

In 2013, 'Jimi: All Is by My Side' premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in August and received generally positive reviews when was released the following month. However, Etchingham said that the portrayal of their relationship as abusive was "completely made up."
