One of my pet peeves is when someone says, "There is nothing to do in Dubuque/the Tristates."

I would have agreed with this statement years ago, but we are living in a town that not only supports live events, we are a point of destination now.  People drive from all over Iowa, even Madison, Milwaukee, St Louis and Chicago to come to events in our town.  Slash, Skynyrd, Dierks Bentley, Dubuque Fighting Saints and the Team of Dreams come to mind as some of my favorites this past year.

And let's not just focus on entertainment.  If you are bored in this town, it's you not the area.  Get out and enjoy the unique scenery at Eagle Point Park, make it an adventure at the Mines of Spain or take in the magnificent Mississippi River (the only cost is gas and maybe a few beverages).  Really, how often do we take for granted all we have in this area?  Get creative and turn a day at the Mines into a picnic and nature hunt.  Go to TravelDubuque.com and see the listings under "What to do."  Chances are you'll stumble upon a local landmark that you visited as a kid and that may trigger some family stories you'll have to share.  It's also time for you to make sure your kids have those same memories and their own stories to share.

If you are bored, then I feel bad for you and even worse for those that are stuck hanging around you.  Life is way too short, so enjoy it.  Turn those boring times into memories and moments to cherish.  After all, there is so much to do in this town.  So hear about it later or attend and be a part of it all.

I gotta run, there is always something going in my town...
