Cereal was founded back in the 1800's when it was felt the American diet was poor.  Too much pork and beef and the diet.  I guess what comes around goes around.  Unlike the cereals of today; cereal wasn't very tasty.  In fact cereal was very hard to chew and digest. But all that started to change with the Kelloggs Brothers (Corn Flakes) and Charles Post (Grape Nuts). By the late 1930's sweetened cereals start to hit the market.
