A Popular Food Truck is Opening a Restaurant in Cedar Rapids
Another Cedar Rapids food truck is opening their very own brick-and-mortar restaurant! Moy's Food from the Streets announced this week that they are moving into a new home in the very near future!
The Announcement
Moy's Food From the Streets revealed the exciting news about their new restaurant on Tuesday, August 19th. The address is 4201 42nd St NE in Cedar Rapids, which is in the plaza at the corner of 42nd St NE and Edgewood Rd NE. It's inside the former home of Pizza World, which reopened at a new location in April of this year. The official announcement from Moy's Facebook page reads:
"From the streets to our own four walls - this dream has been years in the making! We can't wait to welcome you into our new brick-and-mortar home where you'll find all your beloved street tacos PLUS an expanded menu we're still perfecting just for you.
This journey wouldn't have been possible without each and every one of you who supported us along the way. You believed in us when we were just starting out with one food truck, and now you get to be part of this incredible next chapter!"
It's to early to know the official opening date for the new restaurant, but the Facebook post says that they are aiming for September, and that details on an "epic" grand opening and celebration are coming soon!
About Moy's
As mentioned above, Moy's Food From the Streets is known for its street tacos, with options like Pollo Loco (chicken), Al Pastor (pork), El Toro (ground sirloin), and Chorizo con Papas (sausage and potatoes). They serve breakfast tacos, too! According to the food truck's website, founder Moy Yescas was born and raised in Mexico City, so he has a "soft spot" for Mexican street food.
Moy moved out of Mexico in 1997 to help with some family-owned restaurants in Minneapolis, eventually relocating to Cedar Rapids in 2008. That's where he met his partner Puchi (Angelique) Yescas, as they were both working in finance at the time.
Puchi spent much of her life in Monticello before moving to Cedar Rapids in 2007, but she has a passion for food and travel. When both she and Moy were laid off from their corporate positions in 2017, they decided to get into the food truck business! A quote from Moy reads:
"Part of my goal is to share some of my culture from growing up in the city and having access to street tacos, which were very popular, along with other food stands. Mexican cuisine is very extensive and we only know just small part of it here in the Midwest. A component of our ambition is to educate people and introduce more authentic Mexican food to the Corridor.”
