A Wisconsin Hospital Has 14 Pregnant Nurses in One Unit

It sounds like the plot of a movie. Or the setup for an uncouth joke. But it's a reality at HSHS St. Vincent Hospital's Women and Infants Center in Green Bay, WI, where a whopping 14 labor and delivery unit nurses are all pregnant at the same time.

It sure sounds like the Christmas party was a great time!

I kid, of course. Any woman who is going to deliver her child at St. Vincent Hospital is at least going to know that there's a good chance one of the women in the building has gone through something similar on her pregnancy journey. There's an inherent empathy in the experience that, at least in the meantime, St. Vincent can offer that not every hospital can.

Per WISN 12 News and multiple other sources, 14 labor and delivery nurses at St. Vincent Hospital are all pregnant at the same time. Though they obviously have their respective families, it's apparently made the tight-knit group of nurses feel like an even bigger family.

One nurse, Ashley Shiles, told 12 News that she's been able to lean on the other nurses for guidance and empathy when it comes to her pregnancy experiences. Some of the nurses are already moms, while others are experiencing pregnancy for the very first time. The fact that they're all labor and delivery nurses probably doesn't lessen the inherent struggle, but it does make them uniquely prepared for what's to come.

The birthing center has a staff of 87, so they're well-prepared for the influx of maternity leave requests on the horizon. One nurse is expected to have her baby this week, and the last one is set to deliver in October:

As shown above, 11 of the 14 nurses were able to get together for a photo-op. They plan to recreate the photo with their newborns a year from now.
