En route to an Ice Nine Kills concert in Milwaukee this weekend, Catherine found a renowned Wisconsin spot that not only serves pizza, but the biggest mozzarella sticks you're likely ever to see.

Located in the heart of West Allis, WI, a suburb of Milwaukee, is Alphonso's The Original Pizzeria. Established in 2010, the eatery is known not only for their assortment of pies (served on a variety of crusts ranging from their signature "cracker crust" to NY Style and more) but their insanely large mozzarella sticks, known as "Lightning Rods."

The Lightning Rod mozzarella sticks are roughly 11 inches in length and weigh 14 ounces, making them a meal in themselves. While at Alphonso's for the first time, Catherine and I got one stick to split and our own personal pizzas.

Underscoring the uniqueness of Alphonso's beyond their choice mozzarella sticks is the décor of the establishment. This restaurant is, in itself, a time capsule of the 1980s. The eatery explodes with personality, from the pop culture stickers on the walls, sports memorabilia, action figures, and more.

If you check out Alphonso's, which is located at 9130 West Greenfield Avenue in West Allis, I not only recommend the Lightning Rod mozzarella stick(s), but also their cracker crust pizza. It's a unique, crunchy texture that brings flavor and character to the traditional pie. They have dozens of toppings, including giardiniera, which, in my opinion, belongs on everything from pizzas, hot dogs, Italian beef, and more.

Take a look at some of the sights of Alphonso's The Original Pizzeria below, including an up-close-and-personal look at those infamous, viral Lightning Rod mozzarella sticks! You can find out more about Alphonso's on their official website and their Facebook page!
