Most Nominated Film in Oscars History Playing at Dubuque Library
One of the best movies of 2025 is being screened for free at Carnegie-Stout Public Library well in advance of the 98th Academy Awards, at which said film is up for a record-breaking number of Oscars.
If you don't know, now you know: about once a month, Carnegie-Stout Public Library has free movie screenings. Ordinarily, they are new, critically acclaimed movies. Sometimes, they're independent offerings. Last year, Catherine and I saw Robot Dreams, an animated movie that merited an Oscar-nomination, at the library before it was even available to rent/stream anywhere.

Here's Your Chance to See Sinners with an Audience:
On Thursday, February 12th, Carnegie-Stout Public Library will be hosting a free screening of Ryan Coogler's film Sinners. The screening will begin at 6pm, and seating is first-come, first-served. No ticket required.
Not only one of the best movies of the year, Sinners was one of the most successful, grossing nearly $400 million during its theatrical run last March. A Southern Gothic, gangster, vampire movie, it revolves around two brothers, Smoke and Stack (both played by Michael B. Jordan), who return to their hometown of Clarksville, MI to open a juke joint with their friends (Delroy Lindo, Hailee Steinfeld). It's after they get the bar/dance venue up-and-running that they find they're confronted with a supernatural evil.
Sinners Makes History with the Oscars:
Ahead of the 98th Academy Awards nominations being announced last week, I was confident Sinners would merit at least ten nominations. Even as optimistic as I was, I didn't think it would net the most Oscar nominations for any film in history (16). For a horror movie to accomplish that feat is incredible. The film was nominated for:
- Best Picture
- Best Director (Ryan Coogler)
- Best Actor (Michael B. Jordan)
- Best Supporting Actor (Delroy Lindo)
- Best Supporting Actress (Wunmi Mosaku)
- Best Original Screenplay (Ryan Coogler)
- Best Casting (Francine Maisler)
- Best Cinematography (Autumn Durald Arkapaw)
- Best Film Editing (Michael P. Shawver)
- Best Costume Design (Ruth E. Carter)
- Best Makeup and Hairstyling (Ken Diaz, Mike Fontaine, and Shunika Terry)
- Best Original Score (Ludwig Göransson)
- Best Original Song ("I Lied to You" by Raphael Saadiq and Ludwig Göransson)
- Best Production Design (Hannah Beachler and Monique Champagne)
- Best Sound (Chris Welcker, Benjamin A. Burtt, Felipe Pacheco, Brandon Proctor, and Steve Boeddeker)
- Best Visual Effects (Michael Ralla, Espen Nordahl, Guido Wolter, and Donnie Dean)

This is an outstanding opportunity to see a phenomenal movie at a pillar of the Dubuque community. Find out more about Carnegie-Stout Public Library's screening of the Oscar-nominated movie Sinners on the Telegraph Herald's website. Find out more about Sinners on Wikipedia.
