United Way to Hold Cocktail Mixology Competition and Fundraiser
For over 100 years, United Way has worked to bring community partners and nonprofits together in order to address the most critical needs in their communities. United Way of Dubuque Area Tri-States has been steadfast in helping our community thrive, from providing accountability structures that monitor impact to enchanting services that address the area's most immediate needs.
If there's one thing our local branch of United Way knows, it's how to create high-concept and fun fundraisers such as the one coming up in less than two weeks. On Thursday, April 17th, United Way will be hosting "Captains of the Cocktail," a great event predicated on mixology competition as well as showcasing the art and science behind some of the best establishments in Dubuque and the Tri-States.
The event will take place on April 17th from 6-9pm at the 7 Hills Ballroom and Event Center. To talk about the event, Katie Wiedemann, the Vice President of Development for United Way of Dubuque Area Tri-States, stopped by the studio.
Wiedemann spoke about how the event's theme this year is "nautical." Let that spring to mind images of yacht rock, Hawaiian shirts, and the sweet sounds of Jimmy Buffett, and plan to dress accordingly if you attend. Wiedemann also noted the variety of cocktails more than a dozen area bars/restaurants will be whipping up:
- Best gin/vodka drink
- Best tequila drink
- Best rum drink
- Best whiskey/bourbon drink
- Best mocktail drink
Underscoring the camaraderie and energy of the event will be live music from DJ Dan Broz, as well as dancing and plenty of "nautical nonsense," per United Way's website.
Those who come dressed in a nautical theme will have a shot to win a $100 gift card from Namaste Athleisure Wear, located right on Washington Street in Dubuque.
Tickets for "Captains of the Cocktail" can be purchased on the United Way of Dubuque Area Tri-States' website. All proceeds benefit United Way of Dubuque Area Tri-States, so you can assure that your money stays local and supports local entities.
