Not everywhere will have the best crime stats.

Everywhere has crime. Period. But how frequent or violent it can get is a different story. World Population Review has released the most dangerous cities in America, by state and by national rank.

A few years ago, this was how the dangerous cities outlook was for Iowa.

It's Stats: The Top 10 Most Dangerous Cities in Iowa May Surprise You

Now, World Population Review looked at a few metrics to make the latest list:

  • crime rates per 100,000 residents
  • violent crime rate
  • property crime rate
  • total cost of crime
  • crime cost per capita

Then, each state's most dangerous city was organized into national rankings-1 being the most dangerous nationally and 263 being the least dangerous on the national list.

Illinois

To the surprise of none of us, Illinois' most dangerous city is (you guessed it) Chicago.

But on the national ranking of dangerous cities, I would've thought Chicago would be higher up on the list, maybe in the top 10.

Nope, Chicago ranks as the 24th most dangerous city in America. But World Population Review says that actually some smaller cities have a higher crime rate per capita.

The crime cost per capita in Illinois was found to be $4,060.

Iowa

Meanwhile, in the state of cornfields, Iowa's most dangerous city for 2025 is none other than Davenport.

Davenport ain't doing that great on the national scale either. It ranks 91st out of 263 for most dangerous national city.

Iowa ranked high in national crime rank too, with a violent crime rate of 657 per 100,000. Property crime rate came in at 3,580 per 100,000. The crime cost per capita for Iowa is $2,017.

Neither Davenport nor Chicago have to go too far to find what stats show is the most dangerous city in America for 2025. St. Louis, Missouri claims that title.
