There is a surprising attraction in a small town in the United States that has been drawing in visitors for over 70 years. It's a colossal tower that's a must-see for anyone in search of a quirky roadside attraction.

But this isn't just any tower; it's a 170-foot-tall ketchup bottle.

The History of the World's Largest Catsup Bottle

In 1949, the Brooks Foods plant commissioned a giant water tower in Collinsville, Illinois. The tower was shaped like a catsup bottle, complete with a bright red cap, and it served as a beacon for motorists driving by on the highway.

The 170-foot-tall water tower was completed in October 1949 for over $23,000, and could hold 640,000 bottles worth of catsup (as it was commonly referred to at the time).

Save The Catsup Bottle

In 1995, the Catsup Bottle Preservation Group saved the tower from demolition, and in 2002 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Today, there is even an annual festival to celebrate the catsup bottle's quirky charm.
