Wisconsin City Ranked Among ‘Most Dangerous’ for 2024; Illinois Stays Off the List
I have to tell you, I was stunned. I still am surprised.
When I opened up the list of the 20 Most Dangerous Cities in America updated for 2024, I expected to see an Illinois city named.
It's not because Illinois is home to plenty of not-so-great places to live but because many cities, including Chicago and Rockford, are usually overlooked.
Is it some of the time deserving? Sure. Is it all the time? Heck no.
So that's why I was shook, stunned, my flabbers were ghasted when a city in Wisconsin, not Illinois, was called one of the 20 most dangerous in America.
The question again was, is it really?
Get Safe and Sound thinks so.
While this Wisconsin city wasn't ranked the most unsafe in America, Memphis, Tennesee, took the spot, followed by:
- St. Louis, Missouri
- Little Rock, Arkansas
- Minneapolis, Minnesota
- Detroit, Michigan
- Kansas City, Missouri
- New Orleans, Louisiana
- Cleveland, Ohio
- Birmingham, Alabama
- Houston, Texas
It wasn't until we reached the 11th spot overall that Wisconsin's biggest city, Milwaukee, made the list.
The most common crime in Milwaukee is aggravated assault, and per 1000 people, over 51 crimes occur. Get Safe and Sound says:
At a violent crime rate of 15.18 per 1,000 residents, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is one of the most dangerous cities in the United States. The city's efforts to combat crime include focusing on high-risk communities and improving the effectiveness of law enforcement strategies. These measures aim to reduce the number of victims and improve overall community resilience against crime.

Does Milwaukee belong, or should Chicago, Rockford, or another city in Illinois be considered?
