Wisconsin Town Named One of the 20 Most Beautiful in America
This doesn't happen all that often, a recommendation for a place that I actually saw in person.
Last summer, I spent some time up north in Wisconsin, and someone in the family floated the idea of a day trip.
I pondered, then considered, and finally spoke up and offered the city of Bayfield as a spot we should probably check out.
Located about an hour from where we were staying, the sales job was remarkably easy.
So we packed up and drove about 60 miles to Bayfield not really sure of what we would find.
When we got there I thought "This place looks like Galena but in Wisconsin." It was also on Lake Superior which was kind of awesome to see.
I had a great time so I guess I can't say I was surprised to see it was just named one of the 20 Most Beautiful Small Towns in America.
Bayfield, on the shores of Lake Superior, offers a combination of coastal charm and Victorian beauty. 'Bayfield is also the gateway to the Apostle Islands, a collection of 21 heavily wooded islands trimmed with sandstone cliffs, lined with miles of pristine sand beaches, and protected as a National Lakeshore,' said Anne Sayers, secretary-designee of the Wisconsin Department of Tourism. 'Visitors enjoy incomparable stargazing, including occasional glimpses of the northern lights, kayaking the sea caves, and visiting a collection of historic lighthouses.'
Do yourself a favor and check the place out. Believe me, it's worth the drive.
