There are a few Iowa heroes in the western side of the state who helped save a baby's life. Not only are they heroes for this baby owl, but they're also heroes in their community. These two heroes are people that kids can look up to and those who help make their community proud.

These two deputies from the Woodbury County Sheriff's office put their lives on the line every day and put themselves directly into situations a lot of us would try to run away from. Not only do they help keep you, your family, and your friends safe, but they're helping to keep nature's creatures safe as well.

Deputy Cotrell and Deputy Lenz rescued a baby owl on Saturday, January 3rd, and this might be the cutest bird you see today.

The Woodbury County Sheriff's Office posted this little guy on Facebook and look how cute he or she is!

Deputy Cottrell and Deputy Lenz found this baby owl off of the interstate and it had a broken wing. They were able to rescue it and was brought to a local wildlife rescue person for healing and rehabilitation. I can only imagine how scary things could've been for this little bird. Thankfully, it had these two heroes step in to give it another chance in life.

I wanted to share this story because I think it's important to remember the little things these heroes do every day. Stories like this happen every day with our local police departments and often they go unnoticed. It would've been incredibly easy for both of these deputies to keep driving and leave this baby owl to suffer alone.

They decided to do something to help this baby owl when a lot of people wouldn't. According to Iowa Legis, Code 63.10, the oath Iowa police officers/deputies swear reads as

I, ........................, do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Iowa, and that I will faithfully and impartially, to the best of my ability, discharge all the duties of the office of .................... (naming it) in (naming the township, city, county, district, or state, as the case may be), as now or hereafter required by law.

While there may not necessarily be anything in this oath regarding owls, these two deserve huge congratulations for protecting the innocent. In this case...the innocent just happened to have feathers, a beak, and a broken wing.
