An award-winning bakery in Downtown Waterloo will be closing up shop this month.

For the past seven years, Rockets Bakery has been a delicious and sweet staple in the Cedar Valley. Established in 2018, Rockets was founded by a mother-daughter duo that wanted to bring delicious baked goods to Waterloo, according to the bakery's website.

Rockets used to be located in La Porte City but expanded to Waterloo in January of 2018. This bakery offers fresh donuts, cookies, and breads.

However, we're nearing the end of a sugary era.

Rockets Bakery Closing

The owners of the Waterloo bakery shared the sad news on the bakery's Facebook page on Wednesday, October 2nd.

It appears that this closure was not due to any unforeseen circumstances. The owner just wants to spend more time with family.

"It’s been a wild, wonderful ride, but the time has come for me to spend more time with my family (those grandchildren won't spoil themselves!) and maybe—just maybe—finally get my nails done."

She went on to thank the landlords for her business, and the Rockets customers for their years of support.

The last day that Rockets Bakery will be in business will be Saturday, October 5th. They plan to honor any valid gift certificates or loyalty cards that customers might still have.

After the announcement came out about the closure, the bakery completely sold out of their delicious donuts.

"So while this isn’t “goodbye” forever, it is a heartfelt “see you around.”
