According to a report from the Telegraph Herald and a released statement from Iowa U.S. Representative Ashley Hinson; two local hospitals will receive a total of almost $800,000 in federal grants by way of the fiscal year 2022 appropriations packages.

The release from Hinson stated,

“These funds will help improve care for those in rural areas and expand access to critical services, including women’s and mental health services. As a Member of the House Appropriations Committee, I will continue to be a fierce advocate to bring investments back to Iowa and to support the needs of our rural communities.”

Guttenberg Municipal Hospital in Clayton County will receive $364,800 to help them purchase a health care communication system and equipment. This will include a nurse call system, ventilators, PPE, and food pantry items. For more than 60 years, Guttenberg Municipal Hospital & Clinics has been a supportive, helpful neighbor in their community. They offer expanded services and specialties, with modern technology and facilities, while providing a personalized, family-focused approach to healthcare. In the spring of 2022, Guttenberg Municipal Hospital & Clinics was named one of the top 20 critical access hospitals for Best Practice – Patient Satisfaction in the country by the National Rural Health Association.

Delaware County Memorial Hospital in Manchester, doing business now as the Regional Medical Center, will receive $423,500 to purchase a new ambulance, a computerized tomography scanner, an ultrasound machine, and intravenous pumps. Since 1950, Regional Medical Center has been committed to Delaware County providing quality, personalized care to their patients. Their service area spans four counties and around 23,000 people.

The grants come from specific rural hospitals funding in the appropriations package. Hinson voted for the spending package and supported the inclusion of Iowa hospitals as a member of the House of Representatives Appropriations Committee. In addition, Mitchell County Memorial Hospital (Mitchell County) and Grinnell Regional Medical Center (Poweshiek County) also received grant funds. Total funds allotted across all Iowa medical facilities was around 2 million dollars.
