The game of Cornhole has been around for a few years. Some believe the game's origination can be traced to 1325 Germany. Then, cabinet maker Matthias Keupermann built a wooden box for the kids to toss grain-filled bags into.

Fast forward to 1883 United States when Heyliger de Windt applied for a patent for "Parlor Quoits." His game was with a square hole instead of a round hole. However, this was the first recorded game where bags of corn were tossed onto a wooden board.

The game has many names depending on what part of the country you call home. You may also know it as Hillbilly Toss, Bag Toss, Bean Bag Toss, Bags, Tailgate Toss, Soft Horseshoes, and Cornhole. Whatever the name, one thing is for sure, the game may soon reach its zenith as a competitive sport.

The Iowa State Fair recently became the new title holder for the GUINNESS WORLD RECORD for the largest cornhole tournament. They set the record at the fair on Saturday, August 20th. They didn't just break the old record of 444 participants, they shattered it with a whopping 730 participants. Click to read the hole story.

Cornhole is now a competitive sport with tournaments, TV coverage, and top players worldwide playing for cash prizes instead of backyard bragging rights while drinking a beer with friends. There's also a movement to turn it into an Olympic sport.

The American Cornhole Organization is the governing body for the sport. It ranks players and hosts tournaments like the one scheduled for this weekend at the Field of Dreams in Dyersville, where teams will play for a purse of $25,000!
