88 Kids Compete for Dubuque County Fair Frog Jumping Title
Under a bright sun, things were heating up, and hopping at Tuesday's 69th Annual Dubuque County Fair's World Famous Frog Jumping Competition.
More than 80 youngsters and their four-legged friends competed for the legendary Frog Jumping title. It was a fierce yet friendly affair sponsored by the Trackside Bar and Grill in Peosta.
From playing the Pointer Sister's song Jump for Your Love as the background music to manning the tape measure to keeping the kids and frogs moving, The Trackside Bar and Grill owners Shannon and Charlie Lundgren oversaw a fun and spirited competition. They have spearheaded the frog jumping affair for several years, and their skills and organization are masterful.
Shannon Lundgren shares about the World Famous Frog Jumping Competition!
The kids and frogs competed for first, second, or third place for the longest jump. Prizes also were awarded for the best-named frog, smallest and largest frog. Prizes included impressive trophies and bikes.
Even past repeat champion Ryan Kisting made the trip from Benton, Wisconsin, to continue the family frog jumping tradition with his son.
From little tykes to preteens, the kids went to great lengths to prepare and were hoping their frogs would leap to victory.
Many of the frogs seemed happy to hop more than a few feet, but several could barely muster the strength to bound more than a few inches.
With fun names like Dancing Banana, Godzilla, Kermit, and Jumping Jelly Beans, the kids, parents, and those gathered in the crowd to watch were thrilled with the frog jumping. And while not every frog could deliver, everyone who entered sure looked and performed like a winner.
The 69th Annual Dubuque County Fair will be hopping and happening through Sunday, July 31st. For more information on scheduled events, visit dbqfair.com.
