The Culpepper & Merriweather Circus is bringing a whirlwind of excitement, thrills, and unforgettable performances to towns across Iowa and Illinois. From the majestic roar of lions to the delicate balance of tightrope walkers, this traditional Big Top Circus offers something for everyone in the family.

In fact, my town of Cascade, is buzzing with anticipation as it prepares to welcome the circus on August 6th. I always loved going as a kid. I'm not a big fan of heights, so I always thought the trapeze artists were amazing! The event is of course a cherished occasion, providing a chance for the community to come together and share in the wonder and joy that only a live circus can bring. From young children seeing the Big Top for the first time, to grandparents reminiscing about circuses from their own childhoods, the excitement is palpable.

The 2024 cast features an array of talented performers ready to dazzle and amaze. Romichel Macias will astound audiences with his foot juggling skills, while The Loyal Family will showcase their daring bareback riding. Big cat trainer Trey Key introduces Delilah, Solomon, and Wendell, animals that have been given a second chance and now star in their own thrilling acts.

The Arlise Troupe's unicycling and the Perez Duo's feats on the Wheel of Destiny and Tight Wire are sure to keep audiences on the edge of their seats. And of course, no circus would be complete without a clown; Leo is ready to bring laughter to all ages. Lastly, Simone Key will captivate with her breathtaking trapeze performance.

For those early birds, the circus offers a 9:30 AM tent raising, a free event that provides a behind-the-scenes peek at how the circus comes to life. It’s also an opportunity to meet the performers, learn about the animals, and see the Big Top go up—always a magical sight to behold.

Family-Friendly Fun

The circus prides itself on being an affordable, family-friendly event. The Midway Ride Combo offers savings for those who want to enjoy the Pony Ride, Bouncy House, and Giant Slide. And for any birthday boys or girls in the audience, the circus offers a special birthday announcement during the performance, complete with a t-shirt and coloring book—just the thing to make their day extra special!

So Who's Brining the Circus?

The story behind Culpepper & Merriweather is as heartwarming as the performances themselves. Starting in 1985 with humble beginnings, the circus has grown into a beloved institution, now operating out of Hugo, OK- known as "Circus City, USA." Their dedication to providing a safe and loving environment for their animals, many of which are rescues, adds a touching layer to the spectacle audience members will experience.
