Big Wins, New Faces, and Growing Partnerships at Dubuque Esports League
There’s been a lot of excitement lately at Dubuque Esports League, with students finishing strong, new partnerships taking shape, and the community coming together in all the best ways.

First, the Valorant team has locked in the #4 seed for the Iowa State Finals on May 20th. The team includes four seniors from Hempstead and one from Senior High, making this an amazing way to close out their high school esports careers. They’ll be going up against some tough competition, including their longtime rival, CR Kennedy. Everyone’s eager to see how far they can go.
Over at Senior High, the JV Mario Kart team wrapped up their season with a 6-2 record. With the way they’ve gelled as a team, there’s real potential for big things in the seasons to come, especially if they stick together.
On the middle school side, DEL recently hosted a Fortnite and Smash Bros. tournament with Galena Middle School, and it was a hit. DEL took first in Fortnite, while Galena grabbed the top spot in Smash.
What really stood out, though? The number of parents and grandparents who came out to watch and support the players. Galena’s already asking to do more events like this, and DEL is definitely on board to make it happen.
In some exciting behind-the-scenes news, Daniel MyCroft, a professional Madden player and recent guest at the board meeting, has signed on as a Volunteer Intern through next May. He’ll be helping raise funds and awareness for esports in the Dubuque area. Even better, he's using his pro status to open some doors along the way.
Looking ahead, DEL is asking for volunteers on June 2nd at 11 AM, when Monticello TAP is scheduled to visit. While staff will be away, Nolan (DEL’s head GA) will run the gaming. The volunteer would simply greet guests, give a tour, and chat briefly about the “Game to Gain” program, especially around topics like interview skills and making a strong first impression.
Finally, DEL leadership has been in some great conversations with both new and current partners. As always, there is more to come on those exciting collaborations at the next board meeting. Keep up to date on all things DEL by visisting their Facebook page, Instagram, or website.
