Bownanza On The Mountain At Sundown Mountain
Bownanza On The Mountain is coming to Sundown Mountain Resort on Friday September 23rd and Saturday September 24th, bringing with it the BIGGEST 3D archery party in Iowa! This exciting two-day 3D archery event is sponsored By Gator Outdoors and Travel Dubuque. You can enjoy 30 targets between two on-the-mountain courses. There will also be a children’s archery practice range. Throughout the weekend you can partake in primitive camping, a night shoot, chairlift rides, food trucks, industry archery vendors, a money shoot contest, live music, and more! For those of you looking to partake in the action it should be noted that no broadheads will be allowed, as well as crossbows. In addition, the 20-Target Wapsi Valley Archery Competition North Course and food trucks will only be open only on Saturday. Remember, there is the RV & Trailer Park and some primitive camping on top of the mountain, but the Creek Side Primitive camping area is limited to 90 spots so secure yours today.
For those competing, awards will be given to the top 3 males and females in each class. Bownanza On The Mountain will be using the IBO scoring format at known yardage. The scoring rings are worth 11, 10, 8 and 5 points. The smallest center circle is worth 11 points. The next largest ring is 10 points. The biggest scoring ring is 8 points. Arrows hitting the target anywhere outside the 8 ring score 5 points. If you miss the target you score 0 points.
Classes are broken up like this:
- Youth barebow (recurve, long bow, or compound bow; no stabilizers, sights or release aids) This is for pee wee, youth, and young adult. Max yardage of 20 yards on 20 target course.
- Youth compound (any compound bow with any of the following devices; stabilizer, sights, releases) This is for pee wee, youth, and young adult. Max yardage of 30 yards on 20 target course.
- Adult barebow (traditional, recurve, long bow, barebow) Max yardage of 30 yards on 20 target course
- Adult bowhunter class (fixed pins, no magnified sights, 12 inch stabilizer max out front, 6 inch max out the back) 42 yard max on 20 target course
- Adult open class (no length limit on stabilizers and magnification is allowed) 47 yard max on 20 target course
Divisions are broken up like this:
- Pee Wee division (0-10 years old)
- Youth division (11-14 years old)
- Young adult (15-18 years old)
- Adult (19 and up)
Bownanza On The Mountain's mission is to celebrate the sport of archery and the outdoors in the Midwest through activities geared towards archery and entertainment at Sundown Mountain Resort.
