Dubuque Holiday Scheduling and Pet Park Update
The holiday's are busy enough. Lunch here. Dinner there. Driving, presents, car Jenga, you name it. Stress is easy to come by. Now, if you’re a Dubuque pet owner or just trying to plan around the holiday chaos, the City of Dubuque has shared a couple of updates that may affect your daily December duties.
First up: temporary closures at the Dubuque Pet Park. If you regularly take your dog to the park on North Grandview Avenue near Bunker Hill Golf Course, expect a few changes. City forestry crews will be doing tree and vegetation maintenance along the fence line that separates the park from the golf course. To keep everyone safe, parts of the park will close in phases. The north section, designed for larger dogs, will be closed today (12/18). Then, the closure will move to the south section for smaller dogs on Monday and Tuesday, December 22nd and 23rd. Crews will be removing trees, brush, and downed logs to clear a path along the fence, so the work should help improve the park long-term.
At the same time, the city is reminding residents to plan ahead for holiday-related service changes. City offices, including City Hall and several public facilities, will be closed on December 24th and 25th for Christmas, as well as December 31st and January 1st for New Year’s. That means no in-person services at places like the Carnegie-Stout Public Library, the Intermodal Transportation Center, or the Multicultural Family Center on those days.

Trash and recycling schedules will also be affected. There will be no curbside trash, yard debris, food scraps, or recycling pickup on Thursday, December 25th, or Thursday, January 1st. If your regular pickup day is Thursday, your collection will instead happen on Saturday, December 27th, and Saturday, January 3rd. Wednesday collections will stay on schedule.
Public transit riders should also note that The Jule will not operate on December 24th and 25th or December 31st and January 1st. Bonus for guests though, parking meters won’t be enforced on those days either.
For non-emergency issues during closures, residents can call 563-589-4415; 911 for any emergencies. Planning ahead now for holiday scheduling can help make the season a little smoother and more joyful for everyone.
