Across the nation UnityPoint Health has been honored to have 50 nurses named to the 2023 Great Iowa Nurses list. This prestigious award annually recognizes nurses at healthcare organizations across the state for their outstanding contributions to their patients, team members, and the nursing profession.

“I’m inspired by and extremely proud of all our nurse honorees this year. Their skill and passion for nursing shows in the high-quality, compassionate care they provide every day to our patients and communities. Each one of these nurses is deserving of this recognition, and it’s a privilege to have them represent the exceptional hospital, clinic and home care nursing teams at UnityPoint Health.”

-UnityPoint Health Chief Nursing Officer and Senior Vice President D’Andre Carpenter.

Award recipients will be honored during a virtual ceremony February 15th. To be eligible nominees have a current Iowa Registered Nurse (RN) license which are confirmed with the Iowa Board of Nursing. In addition, nominations can be made through the website, but they are currently closed until next years' award cycle.

According to their website, originally established as 100 Great Iowa Nurses in 2004, it was hosted by the University of Iowa until 2020. In 2022, with the support of Mary Greeley Medical Center, the program, now called Great Iowa Nurses, is returning to recognize Iowa nurses that routinely go above and beyond every day and take the extra steps to ensure safe and compassionate care for their patients. These great nurses share their experience and knowledge to improve the health of their communities. They also take on leadership and mentoring responsibilities, serving as role models for everyone they work with, especially those just entering the profession.
