Valentino arrived at the shelter at just 7 months old, completely shut down and terrified. It was clear he wanted to be a playful puppy, but fear had taken over. Thanks to the patience, love, and safe environment provided by his foster family, Valentino is now a completely different dog.

This sweet boy is goofy, affectionate, and slowly letting himself enjoy the playful pup life he’s always deserved. Valentino is incredibly smart and highly treat motivated, making training a fun experience for him and his humans. While he’s still shy around new people, he’s making great progress and will thrive in a home willing to continue building his confidence and socialization.

Valentino has also lived with a smaller, older dog in foster care and has done well with other dogs in the past, so he may enjoy a home with a compatible canine companion. If you’re ready to welcome Valentino into your heart and home, or want to change a life by fostering him, you can apply at dbqhumane.org/foster-program.

LOOK: Here Are 30 Foods That Are Poisonous to Dogs

To prepare yourself for a potential incident, always keep your vet's phone number handy, along with an after-hours clinic you can call in an emergency. The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center also has a hotline you can call at (888) 426-4435 for advice.

Even with all of these resources, however, the best cure for food poisoning is preventing it in the first place. To give you an idea of what human foods can be dangerous, Stacker has put together a slideshow of 30 common foods to avoid. Take a look to see if there are any that surprise you.
