Dubuque Police Searching for CRO Applicants
Staffing shortages have become a big issue for many different businesses and industries. Dubuque's Police Department is no exception. However, Dubuque has been able to turn this around with the Community Resource Officer Program or CRO which was established in 2011. In fact, the Dubuque Police Department is currently accepting applications for CRO interns.
The Community Resource Officer paid internship is designed to provide participants with experience in all aspects of Department life, including, working with the Patrol Division, Community Policing Unit, and attending community events and meetings. Participants are issued a CRO uniform, equipment, and provided training to formalize and enhance the program experience. During the Community Resource Officer program; interns receive three weeks of training during the three-month program before being put out on the streets with officers.
So far, the next test on April 23 has 51 applicants signed up, but usually only a small percentage pass the test.
The Dubuque Police Department also continues to offer a more traditional (unpaid) internship program comprised primarily of interns riding with patrol officers. Interns experience what a patrol officer does on a daily basis and are often required to complete a report as part of their college coursework.
