Winter Collection For Dubuque Yard Waste and Food Scraps
According to a press release from the City of Dubuque the winter collection schedule has officially been released for yard waste and food scraps. That will begin, starting on Monday, November 28th.
Any local resident who would like to have a collection made during the winter months must schedule an appointment by either submitting a request through the City's website, which can be done here: www.cityofdubuque.org/yardwaste. You can also call the City of Dubuque Public Works Department at 563-589-4250. Yard waste and food scrap appointments will be scheduled and collected on customers’ normal collection day with other curbside materials. Appointments must be scheduled no later than 3pm on the previous business day. Scheduled winter collections require an annual decal or single-use yellow sticker to be attached to the collection, both of which can be purchased at City Hall and other area retailers.
Anyone who subscribes to a city-issued Dubuque food scrap cart will have collections made weekly on their normal collection day with no appointment necessary. The city would also like to remind subscribers that to prevent food scraps from freezing to the cart, make sure to line the inside of the cart with newspaper or a paper bag. It makes collection much easier for the city workers.
Dubuque’s winter collection schedule of yard waste and food scraps runs through Friday, March 31 of 2023. Unclear what can be composted? The REThink Waste Dubuque app is a free tool that features waste search, collection day reminders, and collection calendars. Just type in the material you’re disposing, and the app will tell you whether it can be recycled or composted or if it can just be placed in your regular garbage.
