Epworth Casey’s Sells $250,000 Lottery Ticket: Winner Announced
Everyone dreams of striking gold when they play the Iowa Lottery, but few winners pull down a cool quarter-million dollars. That dream, however, just became a reality for one Worthington man.

Yup. Paul Engler of Worthington won a whopping $250,000 on a Payline scratch ticket purchased at the local Casey’s, and his reaction was unforgettable.

In fact, Paul got so excited, he accidentally gave his wife a bit of a scare, that is according to the Iowa Lottery's post.
“‘Hey, you better get out here, I think I’m having a heart attack!’”
-Paul Engler
Naturally, his wife thought something was seriously wrong and rushed over, only to find out Paul was just stunned by the best kind of news, a huge financial windfall. It's crazy how just a $20 ticket can have such a huge impact!
Once the initial shock passed, the Englers were able to celebrate their massive cash prize. The couple plans to help their children with college costs and take a family vacation. Those are two very meaningful ways to enjoy a life-changing sum of money.
Paul’s winning ticket came from Casey’s in Epworth (seen below), and while scratch tickets like Payline don’t trigger the same retailer bonuses as jackpot games, it’s worth noting that Iowa Lottery retailers can earn substantial bonuses when they sell winning tickets. For example, selling a Powerball or Mega Millions jackpot ticket earns the business a $10,000 bonus. Even lower-tier wins can bring in bonuses ranging from $100 to $1,000 for prizes starting at $100,000.
Over the years, businesses across Iowa have used their lottery bonuses in creative ways, from repairing their buildings to giving back to local charities.
Congrats again to Paul Engler and his family. And next time you’re at Casey’s in Epworth, you just might want to grab a ticket. You never know when lightning might strike again!
