The City of Dubuque Leisure Services Department has announced the closure of Miller Riverview Park and Campground due to high Mississippi River levels. This closure, effective until further notice, will extend through the Independence Day holiday, impacting both campers and pedestrians.

Current flood conditions have submerged the entire western side of the campground, with floodwaters also covering parts of Riverview Park Road, restricting access to the northern portion of the campground. The National Weather Service has forecasted that Mississippi River levels will begin to rise again on Friday afternoon, with the exact crest date still unknown.

As a result, pedestrians will not be able to access the park and campground to view the July 3rd airshow and fireworks, one of Dubuque's most popular free events. The decision prioritizes the safety of all residents and visitors during this period of elevated flood risk.

Campers who made reservations before the campground’s closure on May 26 will receive refunds. The Leisure Services Department is proactively issuing these refunds and will continue to do so until the campground re-opens. The online camping reservation system has been temporarily disabled for new bookings and will remain so until conditions improve and the campground is deemed safe for reopening.
