Fighting Saints Forward Commits to #5 Michigan
According to a press release from the Dubuque Fighting Saints, forward Mikey Burchill has announced his commitment to continue his hockey career and studies at the University of Michigan. Burchill, who is in the midst of his second season in Dubuque, leads the Fighting Saints in goals (7) and is second in both assists (7) and total points (14) through 13 games to open the 2022-23 season.
Burchill has found instant chemistry with top points getter and linemate Ryan St. Louis. That partnership has helped unlock their offensive potential. The two have assisted each other on eight of their combined 13 goals when in the line-up together. The Mundelein, Illinois native is well on his way to breaking his career high numbers in all major categories set last year in his rookie season.
"Mikey has taken big steps during his time in Dubuque. He is already a top player. We are excited for him and his family on committing to Michigan!"
-Fighting Saints General Manager and President of Hockey Operations Kalle Larsson
His offensive fire power has often come in bunches this season. Burchill has recorded five multi-point games on the season, ranking second on the Fighting Saints behind his linemate, St. Louis. Prior to joining the Dubuque Fighting Saints, Burchill was a member of the Compuware AAA program. The Saints selected Burchill with the fifth overall pick of the 2021 USHL Phase I draft. The Michigan Wolverines men's hockey program is led by first year Interim Head Coach Brandon Naurato. They currently rank fifth in the nation in both the USCHO and USA Today polls.
