Fighting Saints Star Commits to Big Ten School for College Hockey

Less than a week after the Dubuque Fighting Saints christened the new and improved Dubuque Ice Arena by mollywhopping the Madison Capitols 10-2, one of their star players has announced his commitment to a powerhouse college.

Fighting Saints forward Noah Powell has announced his commitment to play college hockey at The Ohio State University. The 17-year-old is in the middle of his first season with the Saints, which is also his first season in the USHL. A native of Northbrook, IL, Powell has one goal and one assist.

Powell isn't the only one looking to continue his hockey career at OSU. Saints defenseman Theo Wallberg has committed to Ohio State as well.

Saints Head Coach Fighting Saints Kirk MacDonald had nothing but praise for Powell's decision and his play thus far, per the announcement article on the Fighting Saints' website:

We're excited Noah is committed to [Ohio State]. We expect big things from him here in Dubuque as he develops with us and are excited to see that process. Our staff looks forward to helping him get to the next stage of his career.

Powell spent the 2021-22 season with the Chicago Mission 16U AAA program. Before that, he spent two years with Shattuck St. Mary's. Now, he's cutting his teeth with a feisty, fiery young Saints team that is playing with commendable defense and exciting offense as well.

Powell isn't the only Saint to announce his commitment and be a part of a Division-I college hockey program. He's actually the 12th Saint to do so. Fellow forwards Shawn O'Donnell (UMass Lowell), Max Montes (St. Cloud State), and James Reeder (Denver) have all announced their respective commitments too.

Tonight (November 11th), the Saints are in Youngstown, OH taking on the Phantoms at 6:05pm as part of a two-game series. Next week, they're back in Dubuque on Friday and Saturday (November 18th and 19th) to face the Muskegon Lumberjacks. Catch all your Fighting Saints action on Eagle 102.3FM!
