Greater Dubuque & IowaWORKS Host Hiring Event Following Recent Layoffs

According to a press release from the organization, the Greater Dubuque Development Corporation, in partnership with IowaWORKS, has organized a hiring fair, which will take place on Thursday, September 5th, from 2 PM to 5 PM. The event will take place at Steeple Square, located at 101 E 15th Street in Dubuque, Iowa. This initiative is a direct response to the recent layoffs announced by John Deere Dubuque Works and Duluth Trading, which has impacted over 200 employees in the community.

John Deere Dubuque Works recently laid off 133 employees, including both salaried and production workers, while Duluth Trading announced that 74 workers would be affected, with terminations beginning in late October. In light of these layoffs, the hiring fair aims to connect these displaced workers with new job opportunities in the region.

The event will feature up to 50 regional employers from a variety of industries, including manufacturing, financial and insurance services, warehouse logistics, administrative roles, and information technology. These companies will offer positions ranging from entry-level to professional roles, catering to job seekers at different stages of their careers.

In addition to meeting potential employers, attendees will have access to several organizations offering support and resources for job seekers. Northeast Iowa Community College will be present to provide information on training and upskilling programs, while Crescent Community Health Center will offer guidance on health insurance and healthcare resources.
