Iowa Leaves Its Mark on Another Super Bowl — Who Else Has a Ring?

Another Super Bowl in the bag and another stellar Hawkeye performance! Yes, the Super Bowl has been the stage for many great Hawkeye players over the years, and last night Cooper DeJean wrote his name all over that history book with a stellar pick-six that vaulted the Eagles to, at that time, a huge 16-0 first half lead in the Super Bowl.

Cooper DeJean has had an unforgettable rookie season with the Eagles, making an immediate impact both in the regular season and throughout their road to world champions. This year he recorded 51 total tackles, 0.5 sacks, one forced fumble, three fumble recoveries, and six defended passes. In the playoffs, DeJean stepped up even more, tallying 18 tackles, one crucial interception, and four defended passes.

Obviously, the pinnacle of DeJean's season came in the Super Bowl, where he made NFL history with a standout performance and that epic pick-six. What made it even more special was that it occurred on DeJean's birthday. This made him the first player ever to score a touchdown during a Super Bowl on a birthday. This guy was always bound for greatness. I mean, we knew what we had in DeJean at Iowa. We're no stranger to this guy's gifts. We always knew he was dangerous with the ball in his hands, and especially on returns.

He reminds me of another famous returner that Iowa enjoyed in Tim Dwight. In fact, the whole world got to enjoy one of his returns in Super Bowl 33 while he played for the Falcons.
