4 of America's Top 10 Happiest, Safest Cities are in Illinois?

I'm embarrassed to say that I was genuinely surprised by this. A brand new 2024 ranking claims that 4 of America's top 10 happiest and safest cities are in Illinois. Could it be true?

This new study was just shared this week by Homesnacks. They named the top 10 safest (and happiest) cities in America and they used some genuine science to make this call. They factored in property and violent crime, the number of murders and also the population of each place. With those numbers crunched, 4 of the top 10 call the Land of Lincoln home.

What Illinois towns made the top 10 safest and happiest in America?

Of these 4 Illinois towns, Campton Hills came in at #2 in America for safest places while Spring Grove was #3. Hawthorn Woods was ranked at #7 and Sandwich, Illinois just snuck into the top 10 at #10.

For me, the most ironic takeaway is that the safest small towns in Illinois are so close to Chicago which often comes up among the most dangerous metros in the United States. How can this be?

If you look at each of these small places, most are very affluent suburbs. I don't want to classify all of them as "gated communities", but I'd guess it's a bit easier for the people that live in this part of Illinois to make a safe place for themselves.

At the end of the day, I'm gonna take this as the good news it is. Illinois (sometimes rightfully) is given a hard time about residents leaving. Good news about happy and safe small towns is a much happier story to tell.
