The First Triple Double In Iowa Men’s Basketball History! [WATCH]

When you say the words 'triple-double' and are talking about Iowa basketball, thoughts immediately turn to Caitlin Clark. The women's star has 16 in her career, the second most in NCAA history. But did you realize until last night, that no Iowa men's basketball player has ever recorded a triple-double?

Think of all the amazing players that have suited up for the Hawkeyes over the years. Ronnie Lester, Roy Marble, B.J. Armstrong, Chris Street, Jess Settles, Ricky Davis, Acie Earl, Luka Garza, Keegan Murray, and Kris Murray. NONE ever recorded a triple-double in their Iowa career. The streak ended last night thanks to Hawkeye Payton Sandfort!

Sandfort grabbed a rebound against Penn State with 21 seconds left in the game, and Iowa's first-ever men's triple-double was official! The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that Sandfort finished with a line of 26 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists in Iowa's 90-81 win over Penn State. The Gazette reports that Sandfort thought the whole experience was pretty cool.

It’s crazy no other Hawkeye has done it. Well, I mean I see Caitlin (Clark) do it every day.

Sandfort also liked the fact his historic night came during an Iowa win. The Gazette reports that the Hawkeyes improved to 17-12 overall, and 9-9 in the Big Ten. The Hawkeyes can get over the .500 mark in conference play when they travel to Northwestern on Saturday afternoon.
