Construction is officially underway for the first-ever Buc-ee's travel center in Wisconsin. The road to getting to this place was at times uncertain, but workers have broken ground on an establishment that will attract hundreds of thousands of people in no time.

What makes Buc-ee's different than a typical gas station? Buc-ee's locations include everything from a bakery, fudge bar, kolaches, brisket, an extensive variety of sodas, coffees, and Icees, and even Dippin' Dots ice cream. They have their own brand of merchandise as well, ranging from shirts, hats, pants, blankets, and their own assortment of snack food. I've went to the Buc-ee's in Springfield, MO a couple times, and it was an experience both exhilarating and overstimulating.

Buc-ee's Set to Impact Wisconsin:

The first Buc-ee's in Wisconsin is set to be located in Oak Creek, and it will be massive. The facility is expected to be 73,000-square-feet in size, and include 120 gas pumps. In addition, more than 175 jobs are coming to the area as a result.

Buc-ee's famously doesn't open locations in large metropolitan areas. Instead, they focus on heavy-traffic areas such as interstates that exist outside of those big cities. For example, one of their locations is positioned on Interstate 10, right between Houston and San Antonio, courting people traveling to/from either respective city.

Utility installation is currently underway with vertical construction expected to begin by next year, per WISN. The Oak Creek, WI Buc-ee's will be the northernmost establishment for the company, which has roots in Texas and has remained loyal to the state and the south above all.

Buc-ee's Predicted to Boost the Local Wisconsin Economy:

Oak Creek City Administrator Andrew Vickers expressed optimism to WISN about Buc-ee's potential to stimulate the local economy:

You know, of course you have the things you can quantify. But it's really those intangible things that you can't quantify. Those extra five million people coming into the area every year that otherwise wouldn't come here. And really, it's about what the city can do to capture those people elsewhere in the city and to help out our small business community and our residents as well- Oak Creek City Administrator Andrew Vickers, per WISN

The Oak Creek Buc-ee's is expected to be completed by early 2028. A sewer project along 27th Street delayed the start of construction by four months, but in roughly a year-and-a-half, Wisconsin's first ever Buc-ee's should be open for business.
