Milwaukee Museum Unveils New Iowa Hawkeyes Water Tower Bobblehead

The National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum in Milwaukee has unveiled an officially licensed, limited edition bobblehead that die-hard Iowa Hawkeye football fans are going to want the day it drops.

This summer, the famous water tower on Hawkins Drive in Iowa City, right in the heart of the University of Iowa campus, is set to be removed after serving as a piece of the campus backdrop since the 1960s. The water tower is no longer in use, and is being replaced by a new tower near Carver-Hawkeye Arena. As a result, the great folks at the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum took action to commemorate the tower.

The Limited Edition Hawkeyes Water Tower Bobblehead:

The Milwaukee museum announced that they are releasing a limited edition bobblehead of the University of Iowa's Hawkins Drive water tower. If you ever for a fleeting minute contemplated what a bobblehead of a water tower would look like, you'll find the design of the piece not only accurate, but logical (the "bubble" part of the water tower is the bobble).

Produced by the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum, an official licensee of the University of Iowa, the bobblehead is positioned on a green, circular base complete with a grass-like texture. The front of the water tower features the iconic Tigerhawk logo, while the back features the Iowa logo.

The bobbles are individually numbered to 2,026, and will exclusively be available through the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum's online store come December 2026. Each one is $30, with a flat-rate shipping charge of $8 per order.

The History of the University of Iowa's Hawkins Drive Water Tower:

Erected in 1960, the soon-to-be-demolished Hawkins Drive water tower in Iowa City has a capacity of approximately 750,000 gallons. It served as the primary source of water for much of the University of Iowa campus, and was a staple shot during countless Iowa Hawkeyes football broadcasts. The replacement tower will be emblazoned with the same Tigerhawk and Iowa logos, but will have a capacity of 2.7 million gallons of water, significantly more, and also serve the surrounding healthcare facilities.

Removal of the Hawkins Drive water tower officially began on Friday, July 10th and will continue during weekends through the end of August.
