Update on the giant red spoon: It has been found!

Phoenix Arizona

The famous big spoon was stolen from a Phoenix Dairy Queen a few days ago. Luckily it was found Monday morning by a man who was playing Pokémon GO.

The man who found the spoon was 52-year-old Michael Foster. He was playing the outdoor mobile game when he spotted the 15-foot spoon around 7 a.m. It was lying on the ground behind a schoolyard fence that surrounds a Phoenix middle school baseball field, just two miles from the scene of the heist.

"The first thing I did was send a picture to my wife and I said, 'It's the spoon.' She said call the police," Foster told The Associated Press.

Packing Up The Spoon

A school maintenance man came over and pushed the spoon, valued at over $3,500, over the fence to Foster, who handed it to Phoenix police.

"I can confirm the Dairy Queen 'red spoon' was located and recovered this morning," Sgt. Brian Bower said in an email Monday.

The spoon was put on top of a police cruiser and was eventually returned to its home.

When Foster found the spoon, no one else was around. The school was just opening when he spotted it, "I did kind of look around and was like 'What?' Another man came around and said, 'Is that what I think it is?' Yeah, that's the spoon."

More Statements

Owner of the Dairy Queen, Raman Kalra said, "We are happy to have our spoon back and we are looking forward to the neighborhood creating more smiles and stories with this now world-famous spoon," he said.

The Mayor of Phoenix was happy the spoon was found, tweeting this:

The spoon burglars are still on the loose and police are asking for help identifying them. The suspects are described as two males and one female. Police are encouraging the public to submit any tips.

Below is the first story of when the spoon went missing.

According to the Kalras' surveillance cameras, two people manipulated the screws to unbolt the spoon from its base and fled the scene. Now the owners are left puzzled, with a bill of over $7,000 for a replacement.

“We were kind of upset but then more puzzled,” Puja Kalra said Wednesday. “What are they going to do with a spoon?”

Making A Report

The couple reported the theft to Phoenix police and are looking to see if anyone can provide a lead in the investigation.

“They were so precise about it like they had done it before,” Raman Kalra said. “They just wiggled their way through and made sure the spoon was not damaged.”

Despite this unforeseen obstacle, the Kalras remain committed to making their Dairy Queen in Phoenix the best it can be, just like their other 34 locations throughout the country.

With hard work, determination, and support from their local community, the Kalras remain optimistic that the Dairy Queen will once again soon boast its iconic red spoon.

With the spoon big enough to hold a small child, it was a popular photo spot.

“It looks empty and incomplete without that spoon,” Puja Kalra said. “People liked to take selfies and put it on Instagram.”

"Where's My Spoon?"

A slogan was crafted that reads “Where’s my spoon?” and is now printed on t-shirts with a red spoon and DQ logo that staff are wearing.

Posters with the same slogan have been spread throughout the Phoenix metro area. Raman and his wife would be incredibly relieved if their giant red spoon was suddenly found and can only hope for some divine intervention!

“I appeal to the person. This spoon is too big to eat anything,” Raman Kalra said. “We want you to bring it back. We will not ask any questions.”
