Recently, concertgoers in Illinois were hit with two big announcements; one was good news, and the other was bad.

One Concert Venue In Illinois Is Closing And Another Is Expanding

My vice is live music. I love going to concerts. Luckily, here in Illinois we have a long history of amazing musicians, shows, festivals, theaters, and a really cool scene. Some of my favorite venues of all time are located in our state. Unfortunately, some of those places have a shorter run than others. While other locations thrive. There is some good and bad news for the fans.

According to Secret Chicago...

The Salt Shed could get a $60–$70 million expansion. Developers have submitted zoning plans for a 10.5-acre site across Blackhawk Street that would connect the venue to a publicly accessible riverwalk.

According to Patch Joliet...

"We've had a great time serving you for the last 9 years, so let's turn the lights off together," The Forge announced on Facebook.

Let's start with the bad news. The Forge in Joliet is closing down after nine years of great shows. It was a really cool rock club, especially if you enjoy heavier music. The venue gave the fans an intimate place to enjoy their favorite bands. Through the years, they hosted many world-class musicians on their stage. It wasn't an ideal drive for people from Rockford, but it was definitely worth the trip.

Now for the good news. My new favorite venue in Chicago, The Salt Shed, has announced a possible $60 million expansion. It is already home to outdoor and indoor stages on its grounds. Along with some cool restaurants, bars, and stores. The owners want to convert a vacant lot across the street into a 15,000-seat outdoor amphitheater. Plans aren't finalized at this point, but fans are already getting excited.
