It's a pretty impressive stat, considering the lion's share is mainly in the East. Facts: There is some California representation in the list shared by Niche, but Illinois is the only state in the Midwest with a university in the top 20.

• University of Chicago (#9 overall) - Only 5% of applicants are accepted.
• Northwestern University (#18 overall) - Only 7% of those who apply get in.
