Join the ‘Empty the Shelters’ Event with the Dubuque Regional Humane Society
The Dubuque Regional Humane Society (DRHS) is proud to take part in the nationwide “Empty the Shelters” event, sponsored by the Bissell Pet Foundation, running now through October 15th, 2024. This annual initiative, launched by the foundation in 2016, aims to reduce overcrowding in shelters by helping homeless pets find loving families across the country. Through partnerships with shelters and rescue organizations, Empty the Shelters makes pet adoption more accessible by lowering fees, ultimately saving thousands of animals from uncertain futures.
This year, DRHS is offering adoption fees of $50 or less for all adult and senior cats, as well as select dogs, making it easier than ever for people in the community to bring home a new furry friend. With an overabundance of cats currently in the shelter, DRHS is particularly encouraging adopters to open their hearts and homes to these deserving felines.
Nationwide, Empty the Shelters has placed more than 200,000 pets into loving homes since its inception. By covering a significant portion of adoption fees, the Bissell Pet Foundation enables shelters like DRHS to focus on matching animals with the perfect families, ensuring a good fit for both the pet and the adopter.
At DRHS, all animals available for adoption receive comprehensive care, including medical treatment, vaccinations, spay/neuter surgeries, and behavioral assessments, ensuring they are ready for their new homes. Whether you're looking for a playful companion or a gentle senior pet, now is the perfect time to adopt and make a lasting difference in a shelter animal’s life.
