According to a press release from the Jo Daviess County Sheriff's office, on Monday, March 6th, just before 4pm, the Sheriff's Department was notified of a single vehicle accident in the area of U.S. Route 20 W, just west of IL Rt 84 North in rural Galena, Illinois. Both occupants of the vehicle were taken to hospitals with the juvenile later succumbing to their injuries.

Upon arrival, Deputies learned that the 2002 Honda CR-V  involved in the accident was driven by 34 year-old Maria G. Amezquita Rodriguez of Addison, Illinois. She had been traveling east bound on U.S. Route 20 West, when at the merge of the four lanes, she lost control of her vehicle and began to skid. Amezquita Rodriguez then over-corrected and crossed into the median before ultimately rolling her vehicle multiple times. Amezquita Rodriguez was transported from the scene to Mercy Hospital for injuries sustained in the accident. A juvenile passenger in Amezquita Rodriguez’s vehicle was transported to Midwest Medical Center and then to UW-Madison hospital for treatment of injuries.

On the evening of Tuesday, March 7th, the juvenile passenger of the Honda Cr-V passed away at UW-Madison hospital. This accident remains under investigation by the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office and the Illinois State Police traffic crash reconstruction unit.
