Killer GNR Cover From Carrie Underwood And Other Classic Rock Covers!
Holy Smokes!
Did you see this. Carrie Underwood is absolutely slaying Guns N Roses' Welcome to the Jungle in this recent YouTube video from the Denim and Rhinestone Tours opening night!
CHECK THIS OUT!
I hate to say it, but this is easily the best this song has been performed in the last 10 years... Sorry Axl, age catches up to us all. Carrie definitely has the chops to rock this track and has covered several others as well!
But this video inevitably brought me to my next question. What other covers have truly rocked! Check out the run down below...
10) Metallica- Turn the Page
If you've heard the original from Bob Seger, then you've heard this one too. It was even one of my favorite versions to cover back in my band days.
9) Guns & Roses- Live and Let Die
Paul McCartney and Wings got this tune right the first time, but I will aways be partial to GNR's version.
8) Disturbed- The Sound of Silence
This song has always been a favorite and this version kicks it up the extra notch; Paul Simon; we salute your writing and this rockin' version!
7) Killswitch Engage- Holy Diver
YES!!!! Ronnie James Dio lives on in rock, and this salute to his catalogue is epic. A fitting take on one of the greatest rockers of all time!
6) Boba Flex- Hey You
I'll be honest, when this first came out I didn't realize how much I was going to love it. I mean I already liked Floyd's original. It could be due to the fact that I spent many years opening up for Bobaflex on their Midwest Tours back in my band days. It's also because they are a killer group of guys. By the way, the band is no longer together. What is left of it is now called The Lonely Ones.
5) Quiet Riot- Come On Feel The Noise
The band was Slade out of the UK and they released the song in 1973. 10 years later and this cover worked wonders for Quiet Riot's career throughout the US. I mean his voice was a dead ringer so why not re-make it? Slade was apparently none too happy with Quiet Riots huge success after the covers release, but they got paid too.
4) Jimi Hendrix Experience- All Along The Watch Tower
3) Nirvana- Man Who Stole The World
2 words. David Bowie. Ziggy Stardust himself wrote this song and Cobain & company killed it during this MTV special. Sadly one of the last times we'd even see Nirvana. Still one of my favorite performances and recordings to date!
2) Van Halen- You Really Got Me
You're telling me you can make the 60's style swing pop of Kinks sound good!? Boy did Van Halen ever! But nothing beats the greatest intro to a song ever... ERUPTION!
1) Heart- Stairway to Heaven
Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart, along with Jason Bonham, played Stairway to Heaven as a tribute for Led Zeppelin on December 2nd of 2012 at the Kennedy Center. It's such a cool, full-sounding version of this song.
