As of Friday morning, the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing are underway! This marks the first year that the Winter Games are in China, and Beijing is making history as the first city to have played host to both the summer (in 2008) and winter Games.

The Winter Games feature 15 sports represented in 109 events. The disciplines include bobsledding (skeleton and bobsleigh), curling, biathlon, luge, skating (figure skating, speed skating, and short track speed skating), and six versions of skiing: freestyle, alpine, cross-country, ski jumping, nordic combined, and snowboarding.

This year, an additional 7 events are making their Olympic debut: women's monobob, mixed team events in a short track speed skating relay, freestyle skiing big air (women's and men's), snowboard cross, ski jumping, and freestyle skiing aerials.

On Team USA, the oldest athlete is 40 years old, while the youngest is 16. More history will be made at these Games: 45% of overall athletes are women. 109 women are in Team USA's crew of 225 athletes.

A Winter Olympic record will be set by NBCUniversal as they broadcast over 2,800 hours of Olympic coverage, which will be on Peacock, USA Network, NBC, NBC Sports app, CNBC, and NBC Olympics.com.
