Name Released: Teenager Dies in Tragic Tractor Accident in Grant County

A tragic accident claimed the life of 17-year-old Race Landon of rural Cassville, WI, on Friday, August 16th, 2024. The incident occurred on the 8600 block of Irish Ridge Road while Landon was attempting to move a fallen tree with a tractor.

According to a press release from the Grant County Sheriff’s Department, the department received a distress call at approximately 3:25 PM reporting an accident involving a tractor. Upon arrival, deputies found Landon deceased at the scene.

Authorities determined that Landon had been using a chain connected to the rear of the tractor to pull a tree out of a driveway. As he attempted to move the tree, the front end of the tractor lifted, causing the machine to tip backward. Tragically, the tractor landed on top of Landon, resulting in fatal injuries.

A family member discovered the accident and immediately contacted emergency services. Despite the quick response from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, Cassville Fire Department, Cassville EMS, B&M Towing of Bloomington, Donnie’s Tire & Auto Towing of Dickeyville, and a member of the Platteville Fire Department, Landon was pronounced dead at the scene due to the extensive trauma.

This tragic accident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers associated with farm equipment and the need for caution, especially among younger operators. Condolences to the family, and the Grant County community, as they mourn the loss of a young life taken too soon.
