
Over 15,000 Pounds of Jerky Recalled Across Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin
I love jerky so this is a big pain for consumers like me! Tri-State jerky lovers are urged to check their pantries for any products involved in a major recall. Springville Meat & Cold Storage Co., Inc., based in Springville, Utah, has issued a recall of approximately 15,388 pounds of ready-to-eat beef jerky, beef snack sticks, and specialty game jerky due to misbranding and undeclared allergens.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), the products contain anchovies, a known fish allergen not disclosed on the product labels. The issue was discovered during routine inspections. They found that the Worcestershire sauce used in production had been changed to a version that now contained anchovies. This occurred without updating the ingredient label on the products.

The recalled items were produced between May 30th, 2023, and May 30th, 2025, and distributed nationwide, including to retail locations across Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, and the nation as a whole. All affected products bear the establishment number “EST. 20528” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

While no allergic reactions or illnesses have been reported, FSIS is concerned some of the jerky may still be in consumers’ homes. Individuals with fish allergies should not consume these products and should return them to the place of purchase or discard them.
