Over 2 Million Granola Bar Cases Recalled Across Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin for Metal Contamination
If you recently picked up a box of MadeGood granola bars, you might want to check your pantry. Riverside Natural Foods Inc. has voluntarily recalled 2,408,883 cases of MadeGood Granola Bars due to potential metal contamination. The recall was initially announced on December 9th, 2024, and was classified as a "precautionary measure," with no reported injuries at that time. However, the FDA recently reclassified the recall, making it an important reminder for consumers to double-check their cupboards.
The issue stems from the potential presence of a small, flat brush bristle in some of the granola bars. While the likelihood of contamination is extremely low the risk is still present. Since the initial recall was issued, seven complaints have been reported. Consuming a product containing metal could lead to dental damage, mouth or throat lacerations, or even more severe internal injuries.

The recall applies to specific batches of MadeGood granola bars produced between January and November 2024. Affected varieties include Chocolate Chip, Mixed Berry, Strawberry, Cookies & Crème, Chocolate Banana, Chocolate Drizzled Birthday Cake, Chocolate Drizzled Cookie Crumble, and Chocolate Drizzled Vanilla granola bars.
You can check the UPC codes and best-by dates on your packaging against the recall list available here or on the MadeGood website.
If your product is part of the recall, do not consume it. Instead return it to the store where you purchased it for a full refund. Retailers have been instructed to remove these products from their shelves. If you’ve already eaten one, the risk is low, but if you experience any health concerns, consult a medical professional.
The company has stated that they conducted an extensive investigation, identified the source of the issue, and corrected it. Enhanced safety measures have been implemented to prevent future risks. Consumers with questions can contact the MadeGood Consumer Hotline at 855-215-5695 between 8 AM and 5 PM ET, Monday through Friday.
