Popular Retail Store Closures Will Most Likely Affect Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin
A well-established home décor retailer, is making big changes in an effort to stay profitable. Following a comprehensive review of its store performance in its 4th quarter report, Kirkland's has identified approximately 6% of its 328 locations as underperforming. That means around 20 stores nationwide could be closed or converted to a different brand. However, Kirkland’s has not yet released an official list of which locations will close.
How Are Stores Being Chosen?
Kirkland’s is evaluating stores based on profitability and long-term lease agreements. Some struggling locations may be transformed into more profitable formats under brands like Bed Bath & Beyond or Overstock, while others that can’t meet financial goals will be closed. This strategy aligns with the company’s focus on optimizing its e-commerce platform and enhancing its private label product distribution.

By leveraging its existing store infrastructure, Kirkland’s can efficiently rebrand select locations into more recognizable home goods stores. The company’s portfolio currently consists of Bed Bath & Beyond, buybuy Baby, and Overstock. They are hoping this will give them an advantage in transitioning underperforming locations into new, more profitable ventures. However, the main goal will be to shutter underperforming locations altogether.
