Q Casino’s Next Phases For Renovation & Expansion Approved For Dubuque
According to a press release from the organization, Dubuque is on the brink of a huge transformation as the Dubuque Racing Association (DRA) recently secured approval from the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission (IRGC) to move forward with Phases 2 and 3 of their ambitious multi-year renovation and expansion plan at Q Casino. This momentous development comes after the successful approval of Phase 1 earlier in the year and marks a significant step towards rejuvenating the casino property and Chaplain Schmitt Island as a whole.
The project's overall investment is estimated to range between $75 million and $80 million, reflecting the enormity of the endeavor. While this is a substantial sum, it's a testament to the commitment of delivering top-tier experiences to patrons and the local community. The renovation and expansion project plans to unfold in five phases, each designed to enhance and modernize Q Casino while aligning with the broader goals of the Schmitt Island redevelopment.
Phase 1, already approved by the IRGC earlier this year, set the stage for what's to come. With the approval for Phases 2 and 3, the DRA is now poised to execute the following new developments:
- Lower Casino and Entertainment Area: Expect a revamped and vibrant casino floor that will provide an even more exciting gaming experience for visitors.
- Sports Bar Restaurant and New Sportsbook Betting Area: Sports enthusiasts can rejoice, as Q Casino is set to become a hub for sports-related entertainment, complete with a restaurant and sportsbook betting area.
- Family Entertainment Area: This addition caters to all ages and includes versatile banquet spaces for various events.
The DRA is allocating approximately $37 million to cover the costs of Phases 1 to 3. The responsibility for bringing this vision to life falls on Iowa based construction company, Conlon Construction, who will serve as the general contractor. The DLR Group was entrusted with the role of project architect, ensuring that the new facilities blend seamlessly with the existing environment.
Notably, a significant portion of the construction work has been awarded to local contractors, fostering economic growth and bolstering the community. A whopping 78% of the hard construction contracts have been granted to Dubuque area contractors, while 99.7% have gone to contractors based in Iowa, further underscoring the project's commitment to local partnerships and investment.
“It has been nearly 15 years since the casino property has undergone any significant updates, so what we have planned is a major undertaking and it will be exciting to see it take shape. When the casino’s new features are completed, they should not only help attract more people and have a positive impact on the City of Dubuque, but also act as a reliable anchor for the overall redevelopment of Schmitt Island.”
-Brian Rakestraw, Chief Operating and Finance Officer of the DRA and Q Casino
With Phases 2 and 3 now greenlit, and the future promise of Phases 4 and 5 (which include a new hotel with a rooftop restaurant and extensive remodeling and landscaping) the future of Q Casino and Schmitt Island is brighter than ever. It's a journey that will not only renew Q Casino, but a reinvigorate the community as a beacon of progress in Dubuque. Q Casino's transformation continues with completion expected by 2025.
